6/15/09 UPDATE

Great First Day!!!!  Over 60 athletes joined us to make the first day a huge success at our new Pt. Vicente location.  Thank you for all the parents and the great staff at PVSA for making today such a wonderful success.

Congrats to Jay Campbell and Ben Myers for being the two fastest athletes at the camp today in the 40 yard sprint.

Coach Willis is the current speed champion for the coaching staff, edging Coach Frost at the line.

Congratulations to Team Capallino in a thrilling 12-6 victory in the 7-7 challenge over the Steelers.
Team Green beat Team White 30-18.

Athlete Performance joins us tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday to help with agility and speed training.

Early word from the staff is centered around Joey Merkin, Sammy Olsen and Zack Mayfield for camper of the day.  Joey Merkin has won the "Camper of the Day" award 4 times and is a past "Athlete of the Camp" winner.   Joey may be tough to beat.

Additional Camp Information

Monday 6/15 we will kick-off the 3rd Annual PVSA Youth Summer Football Camp.  Thank you for your participation and your support of our local camp.  Please review the following points about the camp, they may answer some of your early questions.

Location & Parking
Point Vicente School (30540 Rue de la Pierre, Rancho Palos Verdes 90275) and the surrounding community is very particular about parking and we have some specific instructions relating to drop-off and pick-up.

Drop-Off
Please drop off your child no earlier than 8:30 A.M.  Enter the main Pt Vicente entrance at 30540 Rue de la Pierre.  Follow the main entrance driveway straight to the marked parking spots.   For extended parking please use the main lot as well.  Check-in will be at the school main entrance (by the school office) and PVSA staff will signing-in athletes at our check-in table.  ALL athletes must sign-in prior to camp participation.  Once signed-in, the athletes will be escorted to the lunch area/school blacktop in small groups where they can play supervised sports until the 9:00 A.M. start of camp.  If you are running late,  we will have staff at the sign-in location until 9:20 A.M..  If later than 9:20 A.M. please park in the main parking lot and escort your child to the athletic fields.

Pick-Up
PVSA staff will escort the athletes in small groups back to the school main entrance/parking area where each responsible adult must sign-out their athlete. We will start excusing the first group at 1:55 P.M. All athletes will be cleared for pick-up by 2:10 P.M.  If you are running late, we will have staff there until all athletes are picked up.  Please do your best to be on time, we will too.  Older Athletes (12-14) may sign themselves out,  with a written note from the responsible parent or guardian.

Emergency
If for any reason you need to pick-up your child early, please call (310) 528-8201 and coordinate pick-up.  If you can not call, we will be in two locations: lunch area (blue tent) on blacktop or fields (white tent).  Whatever the reason please sign-out your child.

Lunch
will be from approximately 11:45-12:15 daily.  Lunch will NOT be provided by the camp so please pack a healthy peanut free lunch if possible.  We have a few peanut allergies and would appreciate your understanding.  Lunches will be stored out of sun where possible.  Lunch is also the time that we have guest speakers and autograph sessions by our special guests.

Restrooms
One Central restroom will be given to us by PVUSD for use by the camp and athletes are allowed to leave the practice fields only if accompanied by PVSA staff member.  The campus is reasonably secure but we do not permit the athletes to travel alone.

Shirts
Summer Football Camp shirts will be provided during the lunch break Monday. There are a limited number of extra shirts, they can be purchased for $10.00 ea.

Snack Shack
Our must popular attraction is back.  We have drinks, snacks and candies all $1.50 and under.  Some healthy, some not so healthy but all peanut allergy friendly.  The snack shack is open in conjunction with our lunch break.  Most children are happy with $2.50 a day.

Attire & Cleats
Weather appropriate athletic attire.  The school is located next to the ocean so we may get varying degrees of temperature.  Most athletes have been perfectly happy wearing shorts and short sleeve shirt.  Molded cleats are highly recommended.  Football cleats are the best but any athletic cleat would be sufficient.

Hydration Breaks
The camp will have access to drinking fountains at the school.  If your child would like something other than water please have them bring it to the camp.  Gatorade or other sport drinks are available for a small fee at the snack shack after 11:30 A.M.

Updated Website
Every night (9:00 P.M.) the website  will be updated with the next days schedule and camp photos/videos.  Information will also be shared about special guests and special camp activities.

Football Combine Testing
PVSA conducts a football related combine where we measure, height, weight, vertical jump, 40 yrd time and shuttle time.  This information will be available after the conclusion of the camp.   We do not produce these records for the masses and like to keep this information for the benefit of our athletes and their coaches.  If you would like to see how your child stacks up against his peers, we can make the information available to you upon request.

We have assembled some of the best local coaching talent in the area so please feel free to watch the camp, pick-up pointers or just ask questions about football.

Thank you again for your support,
